Alba Carbonell Castillo (Valencia, Spain) completed her professional dance education with top marks at the “Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Riba-Roja del Turia”, Valencia. Immediately afterwards she was offered a contract at the “Teatres de la Generalitat Valenciana” (Valencia), where she danced for two years.  At the same time, she graduated from the University of Music as a music teacher for children.

In 2007 Alba moved to the company “CND2” (Madrid), where she performed for 4 years. In 2011 she wanted to take the step into the international dance world and applied successfully with the Ballet Basel. Since then, she has worked as a solo dancer at the Basler Ballettensemble. During her career she works with renowned choreographers such as Nacho Duato, Goyo Montero, Tony Fabre, Mauro Bigonzetti, Angelin Preljocaj, Richard Wherlock, Stjin Celis, Johaninger, Alexander Ekman, Edd Wubbe, Stephan Toss and Hofesh Schecter.

Since 2012, she has been creating her own choreographies. The first piece, “Bipolar Skin”, co-created with Jorge García Pérez, won several prizes, including the “Cross Connection Choreographic International Competition” 2012 (Copenhagen) and second place at the Burgos / New York Choreographic Competition (Burgos, Spain). Her second choreography “Behind the mirror” was performed at the so-called Dancelab of the Theater Basel – a platform for young choreographers. Also her later piece “San Saru” (2015) was selected for the Dancelab. In 2014 she created “Espiral”. Her last choreography “Somero” was created for the first full-length program of Carta Blanca Dance (CBD), a platform for young dancers and choreographers founded by Permi Jhooti and Jorge García Pérez. Since then, she has created new shortcuts with CBD, among others for “Continuum”, the new monthly series of CBD, in which dance, theater and party merge.
