STUDIES FOR ONE DISKLAVIER PIANO

JANIV ORON

MUSIC | DANCE PERFORMANCE

A visual sound installation, a performative composition, a piano piece without pianists.

The world in Janiv Oron’s performance consists of sounds, mechanical limitations, a frenetic dance performance and a self-playing disclavier. 3 dancers regulate tempo, rhythm and meter. Their heart rate determines the musical structure and all variables, such as pitch, tone length or pitch of the notes, are controlled by their heart pulse. All factors lead to a metric and rhythmic complexity. The results leave the piano sounding more like synthesized electronic music and less like an actual piano. Self-play mechanisms move the piano keys as if they were touched by ghost hand.
